A fly-drive holiday is basically one where you travel to another country and then drive through it to discover its wonders. England
Flying to Heathrow airport in London offers the perfect location for a fly-drive holiday. After spending a couple of days in the capital there is an entire United Kingdom to explore. The United Kingdom is small enough that large portions of it can be seen in a very short space of time. Driving from London, you can feasibly reach several major cities within a couple of hours. From any of these you can then branch off towards Edinburgh in Scotland, or Aberystwyth in Wales. From Wales a short ferry ride will get you swiftly across to Dublin and the tour will almost be complete. There is a vast array of ancient history and the wonderfully modern in the United Kingdom and with just a few weeks you can experience a huge amount of it.
England to France
From England you can also easily hop aboard the Channel Tunnel and have your car whisked beneath the ocean to France in just a short matter of hours. Arriving in Calais there is a similar wealth of places to see and locales to choose from. Heading along the coast to Brittany will offer glorious beaches, fine food and vast quantities of spectacular wines. Alternatively you can travel inland to Paris, the city of love, and appreciate the beauty of this iconic city. Driving in Paris is, however, somewhat hectic to say the least, so it may be better to leave the car on the outskirts and travel in by Metro.
France to Anywhere…
From France there is a huge variety of countries and directions to choose from. You can travel through Spain and on into Portugal for a rich multicultural experience. Following the coast will provide you with some fantastic beaches to visit and a generally wonderful and relaxed environment. Alternatively you could visit: Italy and on into Croatia, Austria and on to Hungary, Germany and on into Poland, or even Belgium and on into Netherlands. This is in fact just a small selection of the possible connections and many can be combined into one fly-drive trip.
From any mainland European country you can practically and realistically reach any of the others by car. With several months to spare, a trip around Europe by car is an experience that will blow your mind. Even with just a few weeks there is still so much that you can see. Planning ahead is essential so that you can make the most of your time and visit as many cities as possible.
